Director of Bands
Mr. Mireles was born and raised in San Antonio, TX. He attended Woodlawn Elementary, Tafolla Middle School, and is a graduate of Jefferson High School as a Fine Arts Magnet Academy student. He studied Music Performance at St. Mary’s University where he studied trumpet with San Antonio Symphony Principal Trumpet Dr. John Carrol, Jazz trumpet and piano with Mr. Cecil Carter, and classical Piano with master piano tutor Mr. Emmett Vokes. He has been a performer with the San Antonio Symphony, Gabrielli Ensemble, San Antonio Brass, YOSA, and as a freelance classical and jazz artist. Mr. Mireles has an audio engineering certificate from the Audio EnginEARing Institute, and has recorded and produced classical, jazz, hip hop, and rock albums as a performer or engineer with a variety of San Antonio and Austin area artists. Mr. Mireles has been a music educator with SAISD for fourteen years, with Jefferson HS for thirteen years, and TJHS Head Director of Bands for four years.
Under his direction the Mustang band has been Battle of Flowers Feature Band, received sweepstakes UIL first division marching and concert superior ratings, Fiesta parades best 5A awards, and a YOSA invitational featured wind ensemble. The TJHS Jazz ensemble has received 1st place awards at the South Texas Jazz Festival, Fiesta Jazz festival, guest artists on KRTU’s South Texas Jazz Project, and hosts the “Monticello Art and Jazz Showcase” Mr. Mireles enjoys performing, recording, and listening to all kinds of music, cooking but not eating meat, the west coast, dogs, playing chess, movies, art, coffee with almond milk, and road cycling training and racing.

New to TJHS Mustang Band is Mr. Wingenter!
Mr. Wingenter is a first-year teacher and excited to start his journey in SAISD! Mr. Wingenter is from San Antonio, TX and graduated from Sandra Day O'Connor HS in NISD. He then attended UTSA to study music education, which is where he performed in the concert bands, SOSA marching band, orchestra and jazz band. He is a trombone player, but also enjoys playing the other brass instruments as well as the saxophone. Mr. Wingenter plays in several community bands in the San Antonio area including the River City Big Band and the Boerne Big Band (jazz), the Boerne Village Band (polka), and Ohana Music (pop/R&B). Outside of all things band, Mr. Wingenter enjoys star wars, video games, DND and the almost everything nerdy!

New to TJHS Mustang Band is Ms. Perry!
Ms. Perry is a first year teacher and excited to start her journey with SAISD! Ms. Perry graduated from O'Connor HS in NISD. Ms. Perry recently graduated from the University of the Incarnate Word, where she obtained her bachelors degree in music education. Ms. Perry plays flute and the occasional oboe. She played in the Wind Ensemble, marching band and basketball band. She also taught across the San Antonio area in HS marching bands all during undergrad. Ms. Perry has lived all over the world due to her military background but calls Helotes, TX home. Outside of band, you can find Ms. Perry riding in her jeep, working out, hiking with her fiancé, and playing with her golden retriever Ladybug.
Claudia Quiroz-Nakamura is the Color Guard director for Thomas Jefferson for the past 6 years. In her time teaching at Jefferson she has led Jefferson to win multiple titles in TECA, winning state championships in 2018. She has also been awarded with multiple design awards for their winter shows.
In her early career in Color Guard she performed in WGI (Winter Guard International) World Finals 2016. She also participated in DCI with the Guardians Drum & Bugle Corp 2016 and 2017, where she was awarded Color Guard member of the year 2017. She also participated with Invictus Independent World Group in 2019 & 2021.
Mrs. Quiroz-Nakamura taught at O’Connor High School under the direction of Darryl Pemberton 2016-2017 where they medaled silver in TCGC state championship. She also taught at Clark High School 2017-2019. They medaled silver in the TECA championships in 2019.
Mr. Diaz was born and raised in San Antonio, TX. He went to high school at South San High School in South San ISD. While in school, Mr. Diaz developed his percussion abilites in wind ensemble and collegiate areas. After high school, Mr. Diaz has pursed higher education at Texas State University. He continues to develop his musicianship while playing in the Heart of Texas community band. He has played with the group for the last year and enjoys all the music genres it provides.
Outside of music, you can find Mr. Diaz either working on his car, playing basketball and golf, or taking care of his basset hound Duck.
